Oppenheimers of the 1950s

Robert Mayer, author, will be discussing his novel based on a true family story about the scientists behind the world’s first atomic bomb for the U.S. Army.  Rob’s mother Sondra Meyer Mayer was from Dover and spent her early married years with her family here until the 1960s while her husband Irving worked at Picatinny Arsenal.  Rob will share his family’s story, his father’s service in WWII and his work at Picatinny Arsenal in the development of the atomic recoilless rifle.
