Pathways of History

Dover Area Historical Society is pleased to participate in Pathways of History again this year, a self-guided weekend tour of 40 of Morris County’s museums and historic sites. This year the event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2, and for the first time there will be only one day at each site. The tours will be held in the Eastern part of Morris County on Saturday, May 1 and in the Western part of Morris County on Sunday, May 2 from 12 noon till 4 pm both days. This year’s themes are Women’s Suffrage, Native American History, and Celebrating Historic Preservation. Dover Area Historical Society’s museum, The Dr. Condict House, at 55 West Blackwell Street, Dover, will be open on Sunday, May 2 and will focus on Historic Preservation, which is a timely topic for us since we are using our recent historic preservation grant to do substantial work on the exterior of our museum. Our special event will focus on the New Jersey Trolley Era Exhibit, a PowerPoint presentation on the Dickerson Street New Construction, Then and Now, and you will be able to learn about the ongoing historic preservation of our museum. You can also pick up a map of our self-guided Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Dover. Parking is available in the lot behind the First Presbyterian Church or on Towpath (across from Harry Loory’s) or Bassett Highway. For more info on the Pathways participants go to pathwaysofhistorynj.net. Due to Covid restrictions, masks must be worn and no food or drink can be consumed inside the museum. We look forward to welcoming you to our museum on May 2.
